2005 is drawing to a close…and I guess this year is unique to all cos it marks a new beginning away from RI, but more importantly, it has been earmarked as the year where we will all take our own paths in life. Pretty soon, we will all be going to university and I suspect it wouldn’t be the same one. So this has really got me into a pensive mood, and I cant help but wonder what do I really feel about each one of you. Stay with me k, cos this is going to be an uber long post that will make up for my non-posting.
Shengle:
Hey dude, you’re the oldest in the whole Circle, and many a times, though you might not be the loudest or the most assertive, you have always been there for us all. And this year, I guess you have undergone some form of benign metamorphosis. The Shengle that I know of now is more forthright and holds on to his views more tightly with greater conviction. Maybe it’s the humans background where everyone tends to have an opinion on almost everything and loves to share it with others. But don’t worry, this is definitely for the better. We have always known you to be a kind soul, and you are always the one who compromises and accommodates, to the point that sometimes, I feel as though we aren’t being very fair to you. So it’s a good thing that you are speaking your mind now.
I have never questioned your emotional character cos you seem to be more predisposed to sensing the affective qualities of others. I mean, you are the one reading all those insightful books that either have touching endings or endings that reflect upon life. And this is definitely an asset to the group. Personally, in RJ, I feel a coldness in the walls and somehow, all of us in RJ seem tainted by the pragmatism that appeared to be essential to doing you. I mean Ngiap doesn’t seem to be doing well in the CONVENTIONAL way, so having you around serves to remind how we can always mix compassion with achieving one’s goals.
If I have to associate you with a colour, it would be white, definitely. For purity of heart, for pleasantness, for peace.
Aloysius:
Somehow, you are second behind Shengle in terms of being nice. But your form of niceness is a different one from his. Yours seem to be a euphemistic manifestation of a laissez-faire attitude whereas Shengle’s niceness is just that - plain nice.
Anyhow, I think everyone would agree that your presence really brightens up the lives of those around you. Maybe its your conscious or subconscious tendency to shut out the sadness, disappointment … in life and focus on the brighter side of things. I tend to see the dark side of things, so your being in the Charmed Circle will be a great counterbalance.
Personally, aside from Shengle, I think you are the one most likely to take all the insults and whatever we hurl at you and turn it into something funny, that’s invariably one of your more endearing qualities. Oh, before I forget, just like to say a big thank you for always trying to make it for all the Charmed outings and all, cos somehow, you always have some family or church stuff to do… not that those aren’t important. So yup. Merci.
But something’s been bugging me… up to now, I don’t quite know what’s your short or long term goal. And that’s quite scary, cos you are either 1) a master of disguise and deception 2) you REALLY have nothing to strive for in life!!!!!???!! So maybe you can make it your new year’s resolution or something huh?
Russell:
Our one and only weather bitch, oops sorry witch. Yea, the fundamental difference between you and Aloysius is that you don’t mind hurling those blood-chilling, heart-stopping, frightful comments whereas Aloy is more tactful. But don’t worry, we all love you, even if it includes your nasty streak. Maybe you are a counter balance for Aloysius, shengle and baby.
I think the thing that strikes me most about you is… nope, not your Caucasian features, but more of your sprightliness and your wit. Those are unparalleled. So DON’T LOSE THEM BOTH!!!
In the Charmed Circle, you are by far the scientific heavyweight, your actual mass not withstanding, so reckon that I will probably need to borrow your brains sometime next year. (PS. That’s why I wrote such nice stuff about you, get it?)
Other than your hairdo, I cant tell otherwise in what areas you have changed. I think what’s great about you is how you balance your life among your different sets of friends, and how you are always one of the ringleaders in organizing outings for us all. You are doing a gr8 job dude!
I think without your presence, most outings wouldn’t be as fun, of course that’s not to say that the rest of you guys are major bores, but our dear ruskie is by far one of the more well-exposed one (Ngiap don’t think sick) so he would probably know more hangouts other than the aforementioned one. And russ, you are undoubtedly the most daredevil of us all. But what’s in life without a little risk? So stay that way!
Ngiap:
Ok… by the time I come to you, I’ve already written 900 odd words, but don’t worry, there’s definitely space for you (considering how large you are). As a Charmed one, you stand out the most, maybe cos you never seem to take the STRAIGHTEST path laid out before you. In RI, where the norm was to do well, you would do otherwise… where most of us would choose RJ or HC, you would choose SA. But that doesn’t make you any less a member of our fraternity though technically you are the most distant.
And just another proof of the authenticity of my earlier comments about you, while most of us cant seem to make it for every Charmed outing, you are almost always there. Don’t get me wrong, its really fantastically fabulous.
I think you are by far the most street-wise amongst us all, throw in a little bitchiness and you are unparalleled. So remember to get us out more often next year, but not too much, considering that it’s our A’s and I’m sure you want to top your school rite? But seriously, you aren’t daft or anything, more of having unfulfilled potential (this sounds a little like someone else in the group), so make the best of it. Carpe Diem.
I think at the start of the year, we might have some differences regarding certain issues, but it’s great that you have remained understanding throughout and tolerant. Thanks loads!
Baby:
Ok…. The youngest in the Circle. Actually I dunno if you are even reading the blog now… that says something huh? Don’t worry, this isn’t a deliberate attempt to suan you or anything… in a way it reflects how far you have come. In RI, we all realized that you have many attributes of a leader… you were dependable, conscientious, helpful, responsible… somehow you just didn’t seem to be getting enough of the booze. So as a friend, its really heartening to see you achieve so much in RJ, being the Council secretary and all. Hopefully it has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
I think I will always remember you for your babyishness. Its actually a very cute thing. Its indescribable, but there’s this spark of innocence, there’s this streak of brattiness, and it does define your character albeit in a not-so-conventional way. And sure, you might not be very comfortable with this sudden revelation, but yea, all these traits are part of the Poon that we have all grown to know and love. And I can for sure reply fondly tt that’s definitely Poon when some of your frens say that you are so boy-boy. Personally, this wee bit of innocence is something that once lost, can never be regained. So keep it with you, though I foresee that it wouldn’t be long before you will relinquish it… the vicissitudes of life…
But there’s this major complaint about YOU! You are always the absentee in the group… and yup, we dun blame you, considering how busy you are. In fact, I was really glad and touched that you came with us to marina though you were obviously tired and were sick. Tt’s the quality that we all recognize and appreciate.
And next year, I bet it will be another mad rush for you. Can really empathise with you. Just remember there’s always this group of friends there for you. And while you frolick around with your arty friends, remember that there’s this bunch of science frens in RJ and SA. If need be, find us in LT1!!!!
